On Thursday, July 18, 2024, ChatGPT’s maker, OpenAI, announced the launch of ChatGPT 4o mini, a cost-efficient AI model that aims to make the technology more affordable and less extensive.

OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed market leader in the AI space, is working to make it cheaper and faster to develop the applications when deep-pocket rivals like Meta and Google rush to grab a share of the market.

Priced at a per million input tokens of 15 cents and output tokens of 60 cents, the newly introduced GPT-4o mini is 60 per cent cheaper than GPT- 3.5 Turbo, said OpenAI.

Currently, in the GPT-4 model, the chat preferences scored 82 per cent on Massive Multitask language understanding, according to artificial intelligence.

MMLU, abbreviated as Massive Multitask Language Understanding, is a textual intelligence and reasoning benchmark used to evaluate the capabilities of the language model. A greater understanding of multitasking means you can understand and use a better language across several domains.

The GPT 4o mini model’s score is compared as 77.9 percent for Google Gemini Flash and 73.8 percent for Anthropic Claude Haiku, according to the post updated by Open AI.

The smaller language models require less computational power, for a run, and an affordable option for companies.

The GPT 4o mini model is currently supporting the vision and text in the programming interface Additionally, the OpenAI model states that the text, video, and audio outputs are currently in further development.

The Chat GPT’s Free, Plus, and Team users will have access to GPT-4o mini, which has the information updated till October 2023. A replacement of GPT 3.5 Turbo, the enterprise user will gain access by next week, as stated by a statement by OpenAI.
