The tech giant, Microsoft reported a global outage on Friday Morning, which has impacted multiple Microsoft 365 services. Several airlines, scores of businesses and services, banks, and medical services are facing a shutdown or delayed services. While Microsoft is continuously working to improve its services, the incident is a perfect example of representing human dependency on a certain software, and its certain impact when things go wrong.

CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm utilised by millions of industries to prevent hackers and outside industries, is responsible for the Microsoft global outage. The problem resulted in crushes running the Microsoft Windows operating system. However, later, in the afternoon, the tech giant announced that its several services have started working including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender Experts, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft OneNote, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Windows 365, Viva Engage, and Microsoft Purview.

The outage led several airlines to cancel or delay their global operations impacting countries like India, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The initial cause of the outage has been announced as Microsoft Azure’s Cloud Platform. The Cybersecurity Platform Crowdstrike reported an outage wherein the users are experiencing the Blue Screen of Death on their Windows PC. The Crowdstrike has also put an alert wherein it is aware of the reports of the Windows host’s crash and is related to its Falcon Sensor.

Currently, the affected airlines, and airports, such as the Sydney Airport, are doing manual check-ins and boarding passes at the airport.

The Sydney Airport took to Twitter to address the issue and said,

A global technical outage has impacted some airline operations and terminal services. Flights are currently arriving and departing however there may be some delays throughout the evening.  We have activated our contingency plans and deployed additional staff to our terminals.   If you’re travelling today make sure you leave plenty of time to come to the airport and check with your airline regarding the status of your flight.

Other airlines, like Hong Kong Airlines, Air France, and Paris Airports, have also reported to suffer owing to the “Microsoft Global Outage.”

When Will The Microsoft Issue Resolve?

Currently, as issued by Status Cloud Microsoft, the “tech giant” is still working hard to resolve the global issue. Cited the reason as “Azure Backend Workloads” Microsoft has promised to recover from the “Blue Screen of Death” as soon as possible.
